Kathy’s Story
The earth rocked. Suddenly I was totally focused on what my doctor was saying on the phone. You have breast cancer and we must do a mastectomy. I remember how disconnected to everything here on earth I was – like floating in water. With ears ringing I told my husband the news.
Fast forward to today. Having gone through this experience I found that some good always comes with the bad. Life is short! Live it to the fullest! My husband and I sold our house, bought a trawler and cruised the intercoastal waterways, the Bahamas and the Keys for several years. My love of photography enabled me to document our trips and build up an impressive library of photographs. I sold many photographs and now paint them with a wonderful group of “forever” friends every Monday. We call ourselves “The 5.”
I encourage anyone going through breast cancer to focus on the good things that happen. I found daily conversations with God essential. Family and friends are more important than ever. Knowing firsthand that life is short, focusing on life after life is the most important thing one can do. I thank God I was blessed with health again and given the opportunity to grow and love those special people in my life.
My painting of “Jellyfish?” focuses on the good and the bad: the darker ones going down, the lighter ones going up. They all look very organic and similar looking to a breast. What do you see in them?
